I am fascinated by the everyday creation and destruction of beauty in our cities. I collect and collage details of the city: fragments of colour and texture that scatter the streets. I combine these with intricate etchings of the architectural shapes that make up London’s skyline. In this way, I strive to archive the layers of posters, adverts, graffiti and text that are constantly re-written, covered and rediscovered. By adding my own view of the city, I am merely adding another layer to this city-wide creative collaboration. My inspiration comes from both the present and is taken from the aesthetics of the past. I love to reach back a little to take shapes, colours and designs that have influenced style today, and enmesh them alongside contemporary images. I hope to draw the viewer’s attention to the small and accidental scraps of beauty, humour and creativity that are all around us.
